The Modern Full-Length Bridal Portrait: Finishing Touches

Motif-Staircase-portrait

Most brides would love a full length photograph (a.k.a. environmental portrait) of that perfect moment when all the planning comes together with the beauty of the venue. After all, this is the shot that gets handed down over generations.

Whether these portraits employ elements of formal composition (as in my example) or are more casual and photojournalistic, capturing the “in camera” shot is only the beginning. The artistry starts, but does not end, with creation. [Read more...]

Ally and Brandon Photos in Central Park

Ally and Brandon wanted to have some fun with their “save the date” photos and came up with some clever ideas for their photo shoot with Crandall Photography in Central Park, Huntington Beach, CA.  What a totally fun couple!  They look great together, and I’m really looking forward to their wedding in August. Pelican Hill wedding celebration

Pelican Hill Resort at dusk

Natasha and Brandon celebrated their wedding in total style at Pelican Hill Resort.  Kathy Nosek from A Divine Occasion handled every detail, and even arranged something I have never seen before at this property: the couple’s first dance under the rotunda while guests watched from the cocktail reception.  I am reposting this truly elegant and fun wedding from Newport Coast, CA. Mark and Rose – A Wedding Celebration

In a ceremony fit for a King and Queen, Mark and Rose married in their Laguna Hills “Castle” this past weekend. The festive celebration was enjoyed by family and guests, and great music and dancing were the theme.

Enchanted Evening Productions provided live entertainment (with vocals at times by the groom and the bride’s son), and later in the evening Jeff Holmes from Moondance Mobile Music keep the dancing lively.

The entire home was filled with floral arrangements, from the fountain to the large foyer chandelier, and was provided by Enchanted Florist.  Paula Laskelle, owner of Champagne Taste consulting, planning and design company, expertly attended every detail throughout the day. It is always a pleasure to be a part of Paula’s team. [Read more...]

Taking Wedding Day Photos at the Beach

Wedding-gown-at-the-beach

Since many of my brides have the fortunate access to some excellent local beaches on their wedding day, we inevitably discuss the most obvious question: If you head down there for some photos (we’re not talking trash the dress photos here – just some nice romantic shots) how do you keep your dress clean? [Read more...]

A Tribute to Kodak

Kodak Movie Camera

Kodak made the announcement today it will no longer manufacture cameras. While this might be a passing headline to some, as a career photographer who has been shooting for almost thirty years, I find myself seeking a moment to pause and reflect – perhaps even grieve a little – at this latest casualty in the digital revolution.

Other brick and morter companies like Blockbuster and Borders have recently succumbed to the digital age as well, [Read more...]

New Family Member

I photographed Danielle and Tony’s wedding at the Ritz Carlton Dana Point and reception at Mahe Dana Point last year.  When they called me to let me know about the recent addition to their family, I went to their home to get a few photographs to add to what is surely a growing album! Dove Releases for Weddings: an Interview with Pamla Wright

Dove Release Orange County CA

Few events at a wedding are more memorable than the surprise release of white doves! A dove release can be a unique and romantic addition to your ceremony. I’ve photographed dove releases in Orange County, CA – from churches to luxury resort properties – and have noticed the expert at these Orange County wedding locations is Pamla Wright from White Flite Dove Releases. I have been impressed with Pamla’s presence and professionalism at upscale events, and she agreed to share some insights about her uncommon and uplifting profession. [Read more...]

Film vs. Digital: which is better?

011912_film-vs-digital-wedding

I often get asked this question by people who tend to prefer the look of film over digital, similar to the look of movie film over video. Based on many years of shooting both film and digital, on this point I would have to agree – film has a wonderful latitude and look which can be only partially duplicated with postproduction work on a digitally captured image.

However, on almost every other point, I would have to say that I vastly prefer digital over film, [Read more...]

Chocolate Favors for Weddings and Bar Mitzvahs

Luisa Chocolate Wedding Favors

We are almost two weeks into the New Year and I am still weaning myself off of the annual chocolate excesses of the holidays. To be perfectly honest, I am thinking it might be better to cut back gradually on the chocolate, maybe over the next 6-9 months; more of a sensibility than a resolution.

By my informal reckoning, approximately 99.8% of us like chocolate in some form – which is why chocolate favors can be a huge hit for guests at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other events. You can generally expect to find individual chocolate favors ranging from $2 to $10 per guest. [Read more...]
