New Family Member

I photographed Danielle and Tony’s wedding at the Ritz Carlton Dana Point and reception at Mahe Dana Point last year.  When they called me to let me know about the recent addition to their family, I went to their home to get a few photographs to add to what is surely a growing album! Dove Releases for Weddings: an Interview with Pamla Wright

Dove Release Orange County CA

Few events at a wedding are more memorable than the surprise release of white doves! A dove release can be a unique and romantic addition to your ceremony. I’ve photographed dove releases in Orange County, CA – from churches to luxury resort properties – and have noticed the expert at these Orange County wedding locations is Pamla Wright from White Flite Dove Releases. I have been impressed with Pamla’s presence and professionalism at upscale events, and she agreed to share some insights about her uncommon and uplifting profession. [Read more...]

Film vs. Digital: which is better?

011912_film-vs-digital-wedding

I often get asked this question by people who tend to prefer the look of film over digital, similar to the look of movie film over video. Based on many years of shooting both film and digital, on this point I would have to agree – film has a wonderful latitude and look which can be only partially duplicated with postproduction work on a digitally captured image.

However, on almost every other point, I would have to say that I vastly prefer digital over film, [Read more...]

Chocolate Favors for Weddings and Bar Mitzvahs

Luisa Chocolate Wedding Favors

We are almost two weeks into the New Year and I am still weaning myself off of the annual chocolate excesses of the holidays. To be perfectly honest, I am thinking it might be better to cut back gradually on the chocolate, maybe over the next 6-9 months; more of a sensibility than a resolution.

By my informal reckoning, approximately 99.8% of us like chocolate in some form – which is why chocolate favors can be a huge hit for guests at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other events. You can generally expect to find individual chocolate favors ranging from $2 to $10 per guest. [Read more...]

Langham Pasadena Wedding of Jae & Stephen

Langham-Pasadena-wedding-01

The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena has been a favorite of brides for over a century. From the historic Georgian Ballroom with its soaring ceilings to the Japanese Garden, there are timeless and elegant locations throughout the property.  It's still one of the best spots in Southern California for High Tea.

On October 22, Jae and Stephen chose the Langham as the ideal location for their wedding. The ceremony was performed on the Horseshoe Lawn under a cloudless blue sky.

After family photographs and the cocktail reception, guests were invited to attend a lavish reception in the modern Huntington Ballroom. Stephen, who is a professional Show Supervisor and Theatrical Manager, oversaw some of the finer details which included special swag lighting and blue accent uplighting. [Read more...]

Engagement Photos with Jessica and Joey

HDR Ventura City Hall entrance

Engagement Photo Sessions are a great way for couples to get to know their photographer. They are also a great way for photographers to see how the couple photographs under different lighting conditions and locations. Best of all, a rapport is created which truly helps ease anxiety regarding photography on the wedding day.

In this case, Jessica and Joey drove all the way up from Orange County to Ventura in order to model for my photography students last Sunday. Ventura City Hall provided the perfect backdrop for the photography session. And I think the fact that this couple really is engaged to be married next September shows in their photos! We thank them for making the long drive up, and wish them every happiness as they make their wedding plans. [Read more...]

Laguna Cliffs Marriott Dana Point Wedding of Natalie and Steven

Natalie and Steven celebrated their first day of marriage at Laguna Cliffs Marriott, Dana Point. The lavendar and silver accent colors tastefully appeared throughout the day, from florals and linens to the bridesmaids dresses. Coordinator Kerri Hatter and her resourceful team handled every detail. Floral design was provided by Giedra Kiskis from GD Designers; Videography by Ashley Video; DJ Jeff Holmes of Moondance Mobile Music; and of course yours truly Lawrence Crandall, Crandall Photography. Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa – Wedding of Melissa & Alan

Hyatt-Huntington-Beach-09

Best wishes to Melissa and Alan, who celebrated their marriage on August 20, 2011 with family and friends at Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa Huntington Beach, CA. This was a destination wedding for many of the guests and family who traveled from Michigan. Lisa Simpson from Wedding Celebrations, Inc., coordinated the wedding and made sure all went smoothly for the newlyweds. This couple chose the California Courtyard for their ceremony; this property has many different choices of ceremony and reception sites and has one of the largest ballrooms in the western United States. Hyatt Newporter Wedding of Kimberly & Sean

Kimberly Slavik

The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, also known as the Hyatt Newporter, was the location for last weekend's wedding and reception for Kimberly and Sean.  It was wonderful to watch the romantic energy these two brought together! Approximately 60 guests attended the intimate Ceremony at the Terrace Arbor, with the wedding reception in the Terrace Room.

The Hyatt Newporter is a perfect wedding destination with many interesting outdoor and indoor options for ceremonies and receptions. Every time I'm there, it feels like I've been transported to a resort on one of the Hawaiian Islands. Perhaps it is the emphasis on the variety of outdoor areas, from Palm Tree covered pool areas to the jasmine covered trellis leading to the amphitheater. [Read more...]

Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel Wedding – Amy & Michael

Southern California wedding sunset

Of the many Southern California Wedding venues we've photographed, one of my absolute favorite spots for a Southern California outdoor wedding is the Sunset Terrace and Plaza Room at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel.

Although this world class resort hotel has several other attractive locations such as the Gazebo Lawn, Promenade and Pavilion rooms and of course the Grand Ballroom, for an intimate wedding of less than 70 guests, a Sunset Terrace ceremony and Plaza Room reception overlooking the blue Pacific is about as stunning a location as you'll find anywhere.

Amy and Michael chose this location for their April wedding, and between the very capable staff of this 5 star resort, and one of the very finest wedding coordinators in Orange County, Gail Garceau, this elegant affair was a sight to behold. [Read more...]
